Ok so this is just interesting and so had to share. This fruit goes back to the Aztec days, where Montezuma served it to Cortez and his conquistadors. The Aztecs called it, Abucatl, which meant “testicle”. It was named that, not only for the shape, but it also supposedly excited sexual passion. I’d like to try their avocados, cause mine doesn’t have that same effect! It spread around Europe, through Spain, with this reputation.
USES
Nowadays, the avocado is definitely a staple in our culinary pallet. It is a great substitute for meat, used in desserts and is a great source of good fat. But it is also used in beauty care as well.
If you are a fan of food or the Food Network, then you know who Elton Brown is. Host of Good Eats, Cutthroat Kitchen and Iron Chef America, believe me when I say that he knows his way around an avocado. Check out his recipe for the famous dip.
